At Alva Beauty Collective, we are a "technique first" program. This means we focus on teaching our students the actual techniques needed to perform the job, rather than just learning about the job. The number one complaint from beauty school graduates is that they often feel unprepared and lack confidence in their skills upon entering the workforce. They frequently need to be taught basic skills upon arrival at a salon or spa because most schools emphasize state board curriculum over practical training.
Most schools prioritize their own success, evaluated by test scores, rather than the success of their students. In California, the removal of the hands-on portion of the state exam has led schools to neglect practical training in the classroom. At Alva, we designed a program that prioritizes our students' success by putting Technique First!
